An educational outing for every year group

At the Museum of Alsace Wines, pupils are part of the visit: they handle, smell and identify.

The class moves at its own pace

No guide to follow: the class stops where it likes and moves on when it likes.

Progress tracking

The audio guide launches the trail challenges and keeps each pupil's score.

Every pupil leaves with their diploma

At the end of the visit, each pupil personalises their diploma and becomes one of our Apprentice Winegrowers.

Two other museums to combine

Choco-Story and Wax of Legends are at the same address: combine them and make the most of your visit to Colmar.

For which year groups?

We welcome all year groups. As the trail is self-guided, every teacher takes from it what fits their syllabus.

Nursery & primary

Exploring the world through the senses: identifying aromas, touching the bunches of grapes, designing their diploma. Then the cycle of the vine through the seasons, from plant to finished product, and the word “terroir” in geography.

Middle school

Fermentation and yeasts, domesticated plants and selection, vine diseases. Terroir and appellations in geography. The steps of the bottling line in design and technology.
A secondary school girl smells an aroma at the grands crus scent counter

High school

Alcoholic fermentation and biotechnology, the economics of an industry, sensory analysis for hospitality and sales courses. And a prevention angle: tasting here is with grape juice.

Holiday clubs & after-school care

An outing outside school hours: the trail challenges, making the apprentice winegrower's diploma, the delivery trike and the jukebox of Alsatian songs.

What pupils actually do

The trail challenges, alone or in groups.

The harvest and the treading

The vine wall lights up: it is up to them to grab as many bunches as they can. Then comes the treading, hands in the grapes, and a turn at the press.

The bottling line

First the barrels have to be stacked in the cellar, then the line gets going: filling, corking, capping, labelling. Each pupil holds a station, and the bottle moves along.

The aromas and the tasting

At the aroma counter, they have to name what they can smell. Then comes the tasting: several grape juices, chosen to echo the aromas of the Alsatian grape varieties.

The apprentice winegrower's diploma

Each pupil puts together their apprentice winegrower's diploma: a drawing, a background, their name. They print it at the terminal and take it home.

The delivery trike

Three routes along the Wine Route to explore: climb onto the delivery trike and the landscape rolls past.

Each challenge is validated by scanning the audio guide. Save the last terminal for the end of the visit: that is the one that prints the diplomas.

Our tips for a smooth visit

  • Pupils stay supervised throughout the visit: bring one adult per sub-group if the class splits up across the rooms.
  • The trail invites play, but not running: move calmly, for the comfort of the class and of other visitors.
  • The interactive displays are made to be handled; the collection pieces in the display cases are not. The rule is easy to pass on: touch what lights up.
  • In the shop, each pupil is accompanied by an adult to choose and pay for their purchases.
  • Every pupil receives their audio guide on arrival and returns it at the end of the trail.

Frequently asked questions to plan your school visit

How does a school visit work?

The class follows the trail independently, audio guide in hand: pupils work through the apprentice winegrower challenges, taste a grape juice and leave with the apprentice winegrower's diploma they created. Allow 60 minutes. Nothing to prepare in advance: each pupil receives their audio guide on arrival.

What age is the visit suitable from?

Do pupils taste wine?

How many pupils do we need for the school rate?

Fifteen pupils or more. Below that, individual rates apply. The school rate gives −10% on the visit; the Duo and Trio Passes, which combine Vino Storia with Choco-Story and Wax of Legends, go up to −33%.

How many adults go free?

How do I book a visit for my class?

Through the form at the bottom of this page: the online ticket shop does not handle school groups. Describe your project (year group, number of pupils, preferred dates); our team confirms your request within 72 hours by email, with the summary and payment details. Validation via Chorus Pro is available for schools.
